My self-hosted mastodon experiment may be running its course out. I'm torn between moving it to a dedicated host I control and just moving my account (back) to a well maintained instance.
The kid’s got a snow day and I wish I had one too. 😔
I was having a rough close to the week but I see my second BrickLink order has now shipped for a custom build, so I’ve got that to look forward to. Happy Friday all!
In more ways than one,
Florida man has the dumb.
So
isn’t that fun.

While it obviously, and they say so as well, is a bit of a case study into their platform offerings, the Wildebeest ActivityPub app from CloudFlare is intriguing. This is definitely a good blog write up on their part.

I got done with a replay of Brütal Legend last night and was pleasantly surprised at how well it holds up.
I've rolled a unified RSS feed that should roll up my various sources, including mastodon toots. It's an implementation 11ty/eleventy-activity-feed and is strangely delightful for how easily it can be set up.
I was really happy to find that instead of needing to run to the store to buy more finish, I in fact have a can of spar urethane I can use ready to go and instead work on getting a project completed as a gift for tomorrow. There's nothing quite like cutting it a little close.
Dang. I leave the angry bird app and still it’s a liability in my life.
Does anyone have any tips on local host name resolution over WireGuard? I’ve got my router’s ip set for DNS, yet none seem to be discoverable by my connected client.
After finding a key mapping that works for me, I started replaying Dragon Age: Origins. The visuals show some age but the story crafting and world lore are strong right out of the gate.
Today, for the first time since the before pandemic times, I found myself in an antique mall. I passed on the slightly pricey transitional jointer plane with fence and opted instead for the Lamson wrench. I’m a bit weirded out by the live edge slabs being sold in the antique mall, but that piece of ash was a decent price… 🤔
Why do I never buy the meyer lemons when they’re actually in the store?
Happy winter solstice everyone.
Well, my blog has sat long enough to not build correctly on netlify on the new build image. Gridsome being slow to update doesn't help either, so I guess I'm migrating my blog format to something new... again!
@makerbymistake Just a for reference, it appears the @rpilocator account isn't updating on pace with the angry bird app equivalent.
Thanks and cheers from the Fox Valley.
I thought the former guy NFTs were fake. Sometimes the world can surprise and entertain me.
@kwschnei yo apparently my follow request is pending.
My self built NAS’s ZFS disk pool shows a disk as having degraded to the point where it needs replacing. Wish me luck!
Only downside of being off the angry bird app so far is that I can't as easily publicly shame UPS for just deciding to throw my address on someone else's package and delivering it here by mistake.
As far as I can tell it should never have left Illinois, why send it to me? Freaks.
What’s that? The swim class time is 15 minutes earlier now? Made it with 2 minutes to spare. Gotta change that meeting reminder.
Another interesting 11ty project, tweetback that lets you build a static site backup of your tweets.
Good news everyone! The thinking on rss/atom/etc feed aggregation I did a while back was also apparently done by some excellent people from 11ty. Check out 11ty/eleventy-activity-feed for how to roll your own with none of the actual work.

I don't care what the updated button says, I'll still call them toots.
Well, we came back from a wake + funeral with the 'rona. I was really hoping to squeak on by this one, but here we go.
@jesse Have you considered adding a relay to your instance?
Oliver’s main segments are usually good, but this one hits home in a more scary way. It’s worth sticking around to the end for the cameo by Nick Offerman.
Well, now I'm a crazy person who rolled his own mastodon instance. I did it partly for the vanity url, but the ability to migrate/move between mastodon accounts w/ aliases is kinda nice.
